Dr Eric Cheah

Dr Eric Cheah is a Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of paediatric gastrointestinal conditions. He holds a Staff Specialist position at Monash Children’s Hospital, Monash Health and also has private admitting rights at Cabrini Hospital, Malvern. He previously worked as a Consultant at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, NSW and the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne.

Eric graduated in Medicine from the University of Melbourne and commenced his paediatric training through the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, before completing specialist training in Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in 2014. He was a Research Fellow with the James Fairfax Institute of Paediatric Nutrition, the University of Sydney and completed an Advanced Clinical Fellowship in Inflammatory Bowel Disease at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, Canada.

Dr Cheah provides comprehensive care for newborns through to adolescents with a wide range of gastrointestinal issues including abdominal pain, disorders of the gut brain interaction/functional gastrointestinal disorders, coeliac disease, constipation, diarrhoea, eosinophilic oesophagitis, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, liver disease and faltering growth with a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease.

Eric is a firm believer in a holistic approach. He is committed to providing evidence based, patient centred care whilst working collaboratively with referring doctors and allied health professionals. He values the importance of clear communication and takes the time to ensure families feel informed and are well supported.

Dr Cheah is accredited by the CCRTGE to perform paediatric gastroscopy and colonoscopy. He also has international and Australian certification through IBUS and GENIUS to perform point-of-care intestinal ultrasound for the management of children and adults with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. This service is offered through Monash Health.

Outside of work, Eric has pet rabbits, enjoys travelling and is an avid tennis player.
