Referral Guidelines
All patients must have a current referral prior to booking a consultation or procedure.
All patients will be seen by their endoscopist and their anaesthetist on the day of admission to the hospital.
At this time, their endoscopist will discuss:
- Informed consent regarding the proposed procedure
- Potential interventional therapy
- Goals of care
- Healthcare rights
- Anaesthetic
- Post procedure recovery
Medical Assessment
To ensure patient safety, your Gastroenterologists will review all their patients over the age of 80 & all their patients on Warfarin and Clopidogrel (or alternate blood thinning medications, excluding Aspirin) at consultation. This will be arranged for you prior to any proposed procedure.
Contraindications to Open Access Endoscopy
Patient safety is our foremost goal. We have a nurse led Pre-Admission clinic. Questions are asked at time of booking which help determine if a patient is suitable to be booked in directly for a procedure. Some patients may need to see their Gastroenterologist first for a consultation.

- Children under 12 years
- Any patient with a BMI over 40
- Diabetics controlled by insulin
